"Back to School" Digital Campaign

A brand built for the slopes still has to sell in August. Sun & Ski Sports, the Houston-area outdoor retailer with more than 30 stores across 12 states, brought WWC on board to refine its brand image across every marketing channel. WWC answered with the positioning "The official outfitter of wish you were here," a line that reframes gear shopping as the first step of the trip, then carried it into a back-to-school digital campaign spanning in-store and online promotions. Advertising and social creative worked as one system, brand-building on the surface and performance-driven underneath. The campaign delivered a 7:1 return on investment and an 8.32% click-through rate. Sharper positioning and disciplined digital advertising moved retail, even in the months between mountains.

Snow gear is seasonal. A brand cannot afford to be. Sun & Ski Sports has been outfitting skiers, snowboarders, cyclists, and runners since 1980, building a footprint of more than 30 stores across 12 states. That reach is an advantage, but only when the brand shows up the same way in every channel, and Sun & Ski's image had drifted across its marketing mix. The retailer asked WWC to elevate and fine-tune its brand image across all of its channels, then prove the sharpened brand in market with a back-to-school push covering both in-store and online promotions.

WWC started with the words. "The official outfitter of wish you were here" gave Sun & Ski a positioning built on what the retailer actually sells, the trip you keep picturing, and gave every marketing channel one voice to carry it. WWC then translated that positioning into a back-to-school digital campaign, with advertising and social creative engineered to drive in-store and online promotions in the same motion. Brand and performance were never separate tracks. The idea that elevated Sun & Ski's image was the same idea asked to sell, so every impression sharpened the brand while it moved product.

The numbers made the case. The back-to-school campaign delivered a 7:1 return on investment and an 8.32% click-through rate, digital performance that drove promotions in-store and online alike, while the broader Sun & Ski engagement has produced a 25.7:1 return on investment and $5.1 million in matched sales. More importantly, it proved the new positioning could pull its weight, turning "The official outfitter of wish you were here" from a memorable line into a working platform Sun & Ski can build on season after season.
