Battleship Texas Foundation

Battleship Texas is the last surviving Dreadnought and the only battleship in existence today that fought in both World War I and World War II. The Battleship Texas Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates the ship on behalf of the State of Texas, is working to transform her into a modern, compelling, and technologically advanced museum. WWC, a Houston marketing and technology agency, joined that mission, designing, developing, and implementing a touchscreen interactive experience for the visitor center, anchored by an immersive timeline. Built in React, the installation carries visitors through more than a century of naval history, from dreadnought-era innovation to D-Day, in a format made to be explored by hand. The installation gives a National Historic Landmark a storytelling layer worthy of the ship herself, and hands the Foundation a modern tool for its most important job, keeping her story alive.

History this rare deserves more than placards. The Battleship Texas Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1998, operates Battleship Texas on behalf of the State of Texas and is charged with transforming the ship into a premier, hands-on visitor attraction. The vessel holds more than a century of stories, tens of thousands of crew members, pioneering work in gunnery, aviation, and radar, service in both World Wars. A walk through steel corridors alone cannot carry all of it. The Foundation needed a way to bring that history to life on board, and asked WWC to create an interactive experience that lets visitors explore the ship's full timeline.

WWC designed, developed, and implemented a touchscreen interactive experience for the visitor center, anchored by an immersive timeline. Rather than compressing a century of history into a single display, the experience invites visitors to move through the ship's story at their own pace and by their own hand, from her 1914 debut as cutting-edge naval technology through her service in both World Wars. React powers the installation, giving the Foundation a modern, dependable platform for on-site storytelling. The goal was never technology for its own sake. It was to turn a visit to a historic vessel into an encounter with the moments that made her matter.

The timeline found an audience beyond the museum visit it was designed for. Schools and groups now use the interactive experience as an instruction guide, turning a visitor center installation into a teaching resource for more than a century of naval history. That is the outcome the Foundation's mission calls for, history that gets used, not just observed. More importantly, the last surviving Dreadnought now teaches the next generation the way that generation learns, by touch.
