Website & Student Portal
Choosing a class should be as simple as choosing a career. San Jacinto College, a public community college serving more than 30,000 students across the Greater Houston area, offers a catalog of more than 200 academic programs that deserved a digital experience equal to its scale. WWC designed, developed, and implemented a new website, user experience, and digital brand strategy for the college. During the engagement, WWC identified and created the Academics Access Process (AAP), now patented, which integrates in real time with San Jacinto's ERP, Banner by Ellucian. AAP lets future and current students compare academic offerings and register for classes in the same interface. The result is a college website that works less like a brochure and more like a front door to enrollment.
Access is a community college's promise, and the website is where that promise is tested. San Jacinto College serves tens of thousands of students with a deep academic catalog managed inside Banner by Ellucian, the college's ERP. That depth is a strength, but enterprise systems favor administration over exploration, and students needed a clearer path through the college's offerings. San Jacinto College engaged WWC to rebuild the experience around its students, one place to find, compare, and act on academic offerings.
WWC rebuilt San Jacinto College's digital presence from the student experience out, spanning website, user experience, and digital brand strategy. The centerpiece is the Academics Access Process, which integrates in real time with Banner by Ellucian so the offerings students browse draw from live institutional data rather than hand-maintained pages. WordPress powers the publishing layer, and connections to Banner and PeopleSoft feed live student and course data directly into the front-end experience, turning the website into a working extension of college operations.
The launch gave San Jacinto College a website that does real work, and the numbers followed. Traffic increased, applications increased, and before and after research showed the site improved on every level. Future and current students compare academic offerings from broad career areas down to a single class and register without leaving the interface, while integration with Banner by Ellucian keeps information current automatically. The Academics Access Process behind it has since been granted a patent. More importantly, it reframed what a college website can be, not a directory of information but the place where a student's next step happens.
