Established in 1891 as the University of Texas Medical Department, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) has grown from one building and 23 students into a modern health science center with a 90-building campus in Galveston, where thousands of professionals advance patient care, education, and research. WWC developed 3 mobile applications for UTMB Environmental Health and Safety, covering fire systems inspections, laboratory inspections, and incident reporting. The apps let inspectors work from anywhere on campus, with every finding captured once and kept in the department's systems. The engagement gave one of Texas's oldest medical institutions a connected, mobile-first safety toolkit matched to its scale.

A 90-building campus is a lot to inspect. UTMB's Environmental Health and Safety department oversees fire systems, laboratory safety, and incident response for a health science center that has been growing for more than a century and now supports thousands of professionals across Southeast Texas. Work that critical cannot wait on a desk. The department needed inspection and reporting tools that travel with its teams and feed directly into its existing ERP and authentication systems rather than living alongside them. UTMB asked WWC to design and build those tools.
One app for fire systems inspections, one for laboratory inspections, one for incident reporting. WWC built all 3 in React and integrated them completely with the EHS ERP and authentication layer, so inspectors sign in with their existing UTMB credentials and every entry they capture flows straight into the department's PeopleSoft system of record. Rive and WebGL visualizations illustrate the giant campus itself, mapping ingress and egress, floors, and systems throughout, so safety teams see the buildings they cover, not just forms about them. Rather than 3 disconnected tools, EHS gained a single connected workflow, with staff documenting conditions in the field and the department keeping one live picture of safety across campus.
For UTMB's safety teams, field data now lands directly in the system of record, with no separate logins and no parallel systems to maintain. Inspectors carry their tools with them, and the department's view of campus safety stays centralized and current. More importantly, it gives an institution that has been growing since 1891 a modern mobile foundation for the daily work of keeping its campus safe.
